I'm Back Again

It has been way too long. I will do my best to post at least one cool Tech-Geek-Nerd bit every week.

I'm Back

Well, it has been way too long. I am hoping to start posting with a lot more regularity, the kind of regularity that comes with a healthy daily dose of fiber. At this page the fiber will be all manner of G33K things. Apple products are near and dear to my heart as are my Nikon DSLR's. I hope to talk about more than just cameras and computers though.

Hackintosh: Dell mini 10v

The Dell Mini 10v was just offered up on sale at Dell and both myself and a friend both purchased one with the singular intent of installing Snow Leopard on them. A simple Google search (i used gizmodo) will get you the necessary how-to step by step. Very easy to install Snow Leopard on this unit. It runs great. Only two complaints from me on this set up. Battery is only 3 hours at most with the included 3 cell battery, I couldn't justify another $150 for a 6 cell when the whole computer was only $250. The second complaint is the track pad, very small and hard to use but this may improve as I use it more and tweak it.

Deer + Durango = $$$

Well as part of one of my earlier posts went, "I hunt to keep the deer from being in front of our vehicles". Well last Friday, not more than 3 miles from where I hunt, I hit a deer. It was just before dark and I never saw it untill it was right in front of the truck, no time to hit the brakes, to time to think, just bam, under the truck it went and off the side of the road. I turned around and made sure it was dead then noticed that I was leaking coolant so I headed to my friends house 1 mile up the road. Once there the fun started.

Long story short is the radiator is leaking, the bumper is dinged up, the bumper bracket and all bent up, and the plastic that attempts to protect the radiator on the Durango is junk and failed at its job miserably.

This week finds me cramped up in my brothers old Ford Ranger. Im not complaining, I could be completely without transportation.

I can't wait to get in the woods with my muzzleloader for some payback.

Model Mayhem Photographer #1468252

I am now "Model Mayhem Photographer #1468252". It took several tweaks to my profile and adding all ten pictures my free account allows before I was added. Of course they don't tell you why you were denied in the first place rather point you to what is required and hope you get it right the next time. On my second and final try I must have added something that they liked. Check me out and tell me what you think. Link

Now the search for local models starts. My portfolio is pretty shallow currently containing a lot of nature pics and several weddings. I am looking to expand it and add some pretty girls, cloths optional, and guys.

If you think you have a look that you want to offer up for me to photograph or just the courage and confidence in your own skin then by all means hit me up and we can set up a time and place for a shoot.

Reality or Fiction: you decide !!!

I first saw these videos a few years back but thought it worth a repost so others can see that what we perceive as real beauty can be greatly invented. Invented to the point that one could (and many do) chase after what was never real in the first place.

Next time you look at an image and you think to yourself how beautiful someone is, or how green those eyes are, or how smooth that skin is, remember that you may be looking at fiction.

Very Very Cool Case Mod !!!!

Not only can this guy chop cut and rebuild he thinks outside the box by putting thing into boxes they were never intended to be in. His video and music skills are pretty sweet as well.

"THE HUNT" : Hunters and Gatherers

Yearly, like clockwork on the 15th of every November I partake in one of the oldest rituals known to man. The "HUNT". My ancestors who have long since been consumed by an internal combustion engine after being pumped from the earth as crude or mined as coal would partake in this ritual to support their families and tribes. Many people will argue that we have now progressed to a state that such primitive rituals and rites of passage are no longer needed or wanted.

I am here to say very loudly, "YOU ARE WRONG".

Those white-tailed deer (Odocoileus Virginianus) are far too tasty not to find their way to my dinner table. Not to mention the need to thin them down to prevent them from finding their way in front of my truck or your car while driving late one night.

If you have never gone hunting I suggest you find someone who does and ask them to take you. Once the "HUNT" is in your blood and courses through your body you will forever know what it is to be a Hunter and Gatherer.

"UPGRADES"

I just recently ordered some upgrade items from Other World Computing. They made it very easy to upgrade my Black 2.4ghz MacBook from 2 gigs of ram to 5 gigs and from a 250 gig Hitachi drive to a 500 gig WD. I purchased an external case with the WD HD and used Carbon Copy Cloner (Found Here) to make an exact copy of my data from the 250 to the 500. This did take a little over 3 hours but when I put that drive in my MacBook it booted right up like there was no change at all. The only change was that I now had roughly 260 gigs free and the extra ram makes parallels run so much faster. 2 gigs of ram was painful to use parallels. I mean it’s bad enough that I occasionally run a windows app, running it on my Mac makes it better and now with 5 gigs of ram (4 + 1) it is easy.

Baby Jack's

The Jack Dempsey or (Rocio octofasciata), formerly (Nandopsis octofasciatum and Cichlasoma octofasciatum) is a cichlid fish. They got their name (after the boxer) due to their fierce actions toward other fish.

My breeding pair just hatched several baby fry last night. I had hoped to put up a web cam but I think I will settle for YouTube video uploads at this time. This is the second time they have hatched babies. Four survived from the last time and are currently quarter sized. These new hatchlings are grains of rice and hard to see among the white rocks in the tank.

If they are still there when I get out of work today I will post up a short video clip and some images. The statement of if they are still there should have read "if the mom and dad did not eat them".

New Beginnings

Welcome fellow G33Ks and wanna bees. I look forward to discussing many G33K related items with you in the very near future. If the term G33K offends you in any way shape or form then you need to "move along, these arent the droids you're looking for".

I live and breath my Apple products as well as my Nikon DSLR's. You can bet that those things will make it as topics in the weeks to come.
